As a pure text editor, it performed as well as any we've tried, and better than most. It lived up to its billing as a small, fast tool that nevertheless improves on Notepad in several areas. It doesn't really do anything special, just competently. If you're looking for a better text editor, try Windows Gvim. Windows Gvim allows you to explore different drives, folders, or removable media in separate tabs, making file transfers incredibly easy and efficient. Windows Gvim has many features that will make file browsing and management a lot more enjoyable and efficient. GraphicsGale's user interface screams "graphics editor" on first glance, and there's nothing wrong with that--that's what the program does. Layout features include includes free-floating Preview, Frames, Palette, Loupe (Windows Gvim), and Layer windows. The Help file includes a Tutorial section that explains each tool and feature and Windows Gvim processes such as creating animated GIFs; the program's Web site adds more tutorials, such as how to create transparent Windows Gvim or PNG Windows Gvim.
